60 Days of Sobriety

Today marks 60 days of sobriety. 60 days since the last time I drank alcohol and chose to never drink again. It’s been a very long but very short 60 days. I recently read that only 20% of the people who regularly drink alcohol have been successful in not drinking for 60 days. Even if they were taking a temporary reprieve or completing a ‘challenge’ and planned to continue drinking in moderation, 80% of the people who’ve tried this failed. Holy fuck! No wonder there are so many more alcoholics than I expected. With those stats I should really not be surprised at all when I walk into an AA meeting and see acquaintances that I would not have thought were in recovery.

I am trying very hard to keep my goals in the present and not the future. Every day is one step at a time and a little closer to the end of the day when I can be thankful for another day of sobriety. I am focusing on asking my higher power for help and not attempting half measures. I never handled drinking half-ass, so why should I handle sobriety that way? Over time all of my days here in the present will lead to the future I want for myself.

Cheers, no beers, to another 60 and many more to come!
