Who the hell takes a bunch of sober alcoholics’ ice skating?! Being cautious in my new sobriety the only Christmas party I went to this year was for my rehab alumni. It’s amazing how much fun we can all have sober when we never would have dreamed of going to any kind of party sober. And it’s a good think we were all sober because the party was at the ice rink and I’m sure there would have been limbs lost if not. The other skaters had no idea what they were in for when they decided to go ice skating at the same time as us, poor bastards! I almost felt bad for the little kids who wanted the skate-assist walkers, our group of mostly adults rented them all.
It was a great time to be had in the peanut gallery taking pictures and laughing at our friends and family who were brave enough to lace up. We followed up ice skating with a white elephant exchange and lots more laughs. Why didn’t anyone tell us that being sober could be so much fun? Oh wait…y’all tried!
