I can’t say that I enjoy cleaning toilets or scrubbing floors but the feeling when I get to sit down after and relax in a freshly cleaned and fresh-smelling house is priceless, very serene. It also reduces my anxiety when things are neat and tidy. I have always been a homebody; my home is my sanctuary.

In recovery they teach about cleaning house for our spiritual, emotional, and mental well-being. It’s taking inventory of which habits are working, and which ones aren’t, decluttering, making good choices, and taking responsibility for past bad decisions.

At this early stage in my recovery, I am focusing on how my new habits are working and discovering new ones if they are not. There is a lot of information online and in my books but I’m finding that my best resource for this is my peer group and their personal experiences with what has worked for them and what has not.

Today I am grateful for my sobriety, a clean house, and my peers! That’s all of y’all too. 😉
