Lots of talk about resentment and fear this week has my head spinning. Chris Stapleton’s song Broken Halos keeps playing over and over again in my head. I want to kick him in the shins and run away quickly.
Resentments from my past have been creeping in, making it clear I have a lot of work to do on them. No matter how often I tell myself and try to convince myself that I’ve let them go, it’s become evident that is not true. They cause me to feel fear and anger like a rash I can’t stop scratching at. I want to let them go, but that requires courage. Courage – the willingness to do the right thing in spite of fear. Such a short definition for a big action. I’m not sure what to make of my emotions right now.
I’m thankful and grateful that I get to meet with Lady J and my sponsor today so I can verbally vomit all over them and try to talk through my feelings. I feel like I’ve been thrown overboard into the middle of the ocean with only a life vest and am watching the ship sail away.
Seen my share of
Broken halos
Folded wings that used to fly
They’ve all gone
Wherever they go
Broken halos that used to shine
Angels come down
From the heavens
Just to help us on our way
Come to teach us
Then they leave us
And they find some other soul to save
Seen my share of
Broken halos
Folded wings that used to fly
They’ve all gone
Wherever they go
Broken halos that used to shine
Broken halos that used to shine
Don’t go looking
For the reasons
Don’t go asking
Jesus why?
We’re not meant to know the answers
They belong to the by and by
They belong to the by and by
Seen my share of
Broken halos
Folded wings that used to fly
They’ve all gone
Wherever they go
Broken halos that used to shine
Broken halos that used to shine
Broken halos that used to shine
Broken halos that used to shine
