We Don’t Do Half-Finished Drinks

This morning, I had the privilege of chairing the women’s meeting. I’ll admit, I still get nervous before stepping into that role, but those nerves fade quickly once I’m surrounded by friends who are there for the very same reason as me. In that room, we share our experience, strength, and hope. No one tells anyone else what to do—we just share what has worked in our own journeys. You can’t tell an alcoholic what to do anyway; you might as well be talking to a donkey’s ass. What does work is sharing and listening with an open heart, knowing that every message comes from a place of understanding and without judgment.

The day ended on a completely different—but equally awesome—note. Tonight was trivia night with the alumni group, and we actually held our own pretty well! We laughed about how the “normies” left half-drank alcoholic beverages on their tables. None of us could quite wrap our heads around that idea. For us, there was never such a thing as a half-finished drink.

It was a fun way to wrap up the evening, full of laughter, friendly competition, and connection. Plus, it gave me the chance to wander through beautiful downtown Boise. I don’t make it to that side of town often, and can’t believe how much it’s changing and growing.

Recovery gives me days like this—where nervousness turns into courage, where fellowship turns into laughter, and where simple moments turn into gratitude.

We take our problems to our sponsors and long term sobriety folks, then take the solutions to the meeting, this helps with the issues and tissues sort of meetings. We want the rooms filled with hope and solutions instead of problems. People that are white knuckling need that more than whining 🫶🏽I love a gratitude meeting or a literature based meeting. The Primary Purpose Big Book story guide meetings are my favorite, and hard to find. There is one in Dallas that started those, and is on my bucket list to experience. I like the 3rd edition stories. If you can find a 3rd edition, they are collectors items, even the ones all wrote in. A second or first edition has been out of my price range, but not for long. Love you lots and lots Ciana 🫶🏽the save my info button is not working on iphone
