Last week I was invited to join a book club with a group of women in recovery. I only know a few of them, so it will be a great opportunity to get to know more women in recovery. Lucky for me, they only meet once a month on a night I don’t have any service positions at meetings. Luckier for me, I am almost done reading The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins and ready to start a new one.

Joining a book club will hold me accountable to the other women for keeping up with recovery books. There are so many great books that I want to read, and I find myself trying to read them all at once. I keep chasing damn squirrels in circles, making it impossible to tell the books apart from each other or absorb the content like I want to. I need to rein it in, put the squirrels on leashes, and read only 1 (maybe 2) books at a time.

This month, we are reading Drop The Rock by Bill P., Todd W., and Sara S. I’ve heard it’s a great book, and it looks like a pretty quick read with only 113 pages. It’s about the 6th & 7th Steps and removing character defects. I’m not on these steps yet; working the steps with my sponsor seems to be the only thing I am not rushing. I’m not putting them off to avoid them, just trying to understand as much as possible about each one as I complete them for the first time.
