Growing up, I was blessed with two dads. My relationships with each of them are night and day, but I’ve come to love and appreciate them both for who they are. It hasn’t always been simple, and I have some daddy issues. I know I am loved, and I carry that with me. That’s enough for today.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of watching my brother become a father to three incredible girls. The way he shows up for them every day—with patience, compassion, and unwavering love—is something I admire deeply. It’s healing, in a way, to witness what fatherhood can look like when it’s done with intention and heart.
I’ve also got a handful of amazing male friends in my life who are phenomenal dads. Some are biological, some are step, some inherited their kids in beautiful, complicated ways—but none of that changes the truth: they show up. You see it in the way their kids trust them, lean into them, light up when they’re around.
Father’s Day always brings up a mix of emotions, but today I’m choosing to focus on the gratitude. For the dads who love in all the ways they can. For the men who continue to break cycles. For the ones who heal by loving others well.
Happy Father’s Day to those who are doing the work, every damn day.
