One of my daily readings is Twenty-Four Hours A Day. I like that it has a thought, meditation, and prayer for the day. Most of the time, at least one of them is what I need to hear at the time. The meditation for today is about building a strong foundation.

Before I could start building my foundation, I had to burn my house down in a blaze of glory. And that still wasn’t enough, I had to dig deeper. I had to sift through what was left of my soul, like ash and rubble, and accept that I can’t ever drink alcohol again. I won’t say peace, but once I had come to terms with it, I was able to start building my foundation out of stone for my step work. The meditation refers to it as the root of a flower. The higher a flower grows, the deeper and stronger the root needs to be. I prefer to think of it as the foundation of a house. Getting stronger as it settles into the ground. My step work is bricks that I am building my house out of.

I heard a prayer last night that I really liked –

Thank you for food in a world where many walk in hunger; for faith in a world where many walk in fear; for friends in a world where many walk alone; we give you thanks.
