Much like my career, AA is full of diversity. Its membership includes people from all backgrounds, beliefs, and walks of life—each unique in their own way. When dealing with others, I have to remember to always place principles before personalities. Just because I may not agree with someone—or even like their hair or smug look—doesn’t mean they’re wrong. We come together for a common purpose.
Tonight, I completed my Twelfth Step with my sponsor just before the women’s meeting. Ironically, we ended up reading the Twelfth Step chapter from the Twelve and Twelve at the meeting as well. It felt perfect and peaceful.
There’s still a lot of work to be done, and I’m excited to keep contributing my time and talents to AA—for my own growth and to support other alcoholics. It feels good to say I’m strong—and believe it again. It feels good to be part of something where I can make a difference.
I’m proud to be a strong woman in the AA community, and I pray for the confidence to be a force for good within it.
