Ironically, self-compassion isn’t even in the dictionary. I had to look up the definition of compassion instead: “sympathetic consciousness of others’ distress together with a desire to alleviate it.”

Psychologist Kristin Neff defines self-compassion as being made up of three key elements: self-kindness, common humanity, and mindfulness.

Book club was wonderful as always. I truly enjoy meeting monthly for dinner and some much-needed girl time. It’s been amazing to see more women join the group each month, each bringing their own unique perspectives and experiences to the conversations.

A few days ago, someone suggested Self-Compassion: The Proven Power of Being Kind to Yourself by Kristin Neff as our next book. The title immediately caught my attention because, honestly, this is something I struggle with.

I am often my own worst critic.

Kindness toward myself doesn’t come easily, and I hope this book will help me start changing that. I’m excited to read it and, more importantly, to learn how to actually put self-compassion into action.
