Sober and Sane-ish on the 4th

I woke up knowing there was no water in the house again because of well issues. I braced myself for the battle ahead and prayed I could get through the day without completely losing my shit. To top it off, poor little Poppy puked on my comforter—something I couldn’t wash away right then.

So I packed up my things and headed to my best friend’s house to do a load of laundry and take a much-needed shower. This too shall pass. Dear God, please help—thanks.

I managed to get through it. I even made desserts for the alumni meeting, I needed to get out and socialize. It made me happy to see so many alumni show up to spend the holiday with the residents and each other.

Now I’m back home, spending another quiet evening with the animals, doing my best to keep them calm with the fireworks outside. It reminds me so much of sobriety: learning to keep the peace within, no matter how loud and chaotic things get around me.
