At Friday night’s alumni meeting, there was another sign. The topic was “How to Have Sober Fun,” and we reflected on our state of mind when checking in to rehab. Most of us had long forgotten how to have fun, let alone how to have fun and stay sober at the same time. Sadly, the majority of us couldn’t even remember the last time we truly laughed. Alcohol is so poisonous and consuming that it sucks the life and soul out of us leaving just an empty shell wandering through life.
Together, we learned how to start enjoying life again—how to enjoy every moment and laugh, how to appreciate people and friendship. Many people have already stepped away from sobriety, but those of us who are still sober stay in touch and try to spend time together as life allows.
Today is a great day to get together and celebrate. We have three belly button birthdays, two 90-day sobriety birthdays, and two 60-day sobriety birthdays to celebrate this weekend. I’m hosting my first sober party and am kind of nervous but mostly excited. My nieces downloaded a trivia game to my phone, and I borrowed Cards Against Humanity from my daughter.
Also, 20 years ago today at 6:32 pm a legend was born. Happy birthday to my beautiful kid.
