As a newcomer to AA, walking into a meeting solo is intimidating. Add to it walking into a women’s meeting with independent, wives, mothers, and grandmothers is REALLY intimidating. You can’t bullshit a bullshitter or pull a fast one on someone with eyes in the back of their head. I kept thinking about how I’ve treated newcomers in rehab and know that they are happy I’m here but there is still that nagging feeling that I’m being judged. The meeting was relatively small and low key with a diverse age range and sobriety time range, which makes it comfortable and inviting. I was able to share and am happy that I’ve found a women’s only group I can go to once a week for girl time. Hopefully I’ll have a sponsor very soon from these relationships I’m building with great women!
